That’s right, Popcorn! Did you know –
One serving of Orville Redenbacher’s Original air popped popcorn has 4g Protein, 6g Fiber, 29g Carbohydrates, and only 1.5g Fat and 120 Calories!
It’s true. Popcorn, when air-popped, is a healthy choice for a snack. Now air popped popcorn is pretty bland and dry. It’s needs something to make it yummy and delicious, without ruining the healthy aspect of the snack. When it’s done popping, there are all sorts of amazing way to top it off. I found this great blog post called 23 Ways to Top Your Popcorn (for Under 150 Calories). My favorite was #3 Cinnamon – Sugar. Even better, I’ve got a great way to show you how to air-pop it.
All you need is brown paper lunch bag and a microwave. And it’s as easy as 1, 2!
1. Simply put the 3 tbsp (40g) of kernels in the bag, and fold the top over twice. Do not staple, tape, or otherwise try to make the fold stay closed. Place in the microwave.
2. Microwave for about 1:30 minutes. (Your microwave may differ. It’s done when there is about 2-3 seconds between pops. Don’t let the popcorn burn!)
Here is how I made my Cinnamon Sugar Popcorn. First follow steps 1 and 2 above.
1/2 tbsp of butter
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
As soon as you take the popcorn out of the microwave, nuke the butter for about 10 seconds or until melted. Dump the popcorn in a storage container that you have a lid for. Pour the butter on top, then dump the brown sugar and cinnamon on top.
